From the ACL taping program on May 12, 2009:

As one of Country music’s premier singer/songwriters, Kenny Chesney has reigned as a chart-topper and award-winning favorite for music lovers and critics alike. The current, and four-consecutive, Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year graces the Austin City Limits stage with his classic hits from the soon to be released Greatest Hits: Vol 2.

His last release 2008’s Lucky Old Sun proved to be a personal journey for Chesney, involving his deeper thoughts on life, love and healing.

“These songs are more relevant to me and my life today and over the last 3 years – where I’ve been in my life, what I’ve done, who I’m becoming,” Chesney said. “So I wanted this to be less of a blueprint of where I hang out and have a few beers, I wanted it to be more the map of my soul.“

Along with his own experiences, he brought in a few friends to collaborate with, among them being Willie Nelson, the surviving members of Bob Marley’s Wailers, Mac McNally and Dave Matthews.

Billboard said, “Kenny Chesney does heroes George Strait and Jimmy Buffett proud on his latest set, which has a free-and-easy feel befitting its island inspiration.”

Greatest Hits Vol 2, to be released on May 19, will include his biggest hits plus a few new songs including “Out Last Night.”

“We’ve been all kinds of places musically,” Chesney said. “And it was a little hard knowing how to pull it all together. In the end, I think we wanted to reflect what we’ve sorta become known for. I think if this music has been about anything, it’s been about having fun, loving where you are in your life and recognizing how special the moments you share with your friends are.”
